I would very much appreciate you spreading this information within you club and regional networks.  SLS support has always been brilliant for this event.  It is a great opportunity for team working across codes and it gives genuine hands on lifesaving experience to club members.

Dear All,

We are planning the 2013 Castle to Castle Swim for the 2nd June this year.  The fundraising swim crosses the mile of water from Pendennis Point in Falmouth to St Mawes Castle.

This is a busy stretch of water so keeping the 350+ swimmers safe and well protected requires lots of volunteers on the day.  As Lifesavers this is a great opportunity to take part in a large scale event whilst gaining hands on lifesaving experience.

We are looking for;

Board Paddlers (as may as possible)

You will be a competent paddler over the age of 14.  You  will require a wetsuit and a board and will be available from 11am to 2pm on 2nd June.  We will supply you with a rash vest and a whistle (some boards may also be available).  All board paddlers will be fully briefed and supervised throughout.

IRB crews (x 2)

You will be qualified as an SLSGB Driver and Crew and will be able to bring your own IRB, buoyancy aids, radio and whistles (we can assist with missing kit).  The Cornwall Region IRB may be available for crews who do not have their own craft.  The RNLI will supply IRB fuel.

Each year this event attracts a huge number of entries among them several celebrities who want to take on this challenging, iconic swim course.  Raising approximately £30,000 each year to help support our local volunteer Lifeboat crews and Lifeguards this is one of the biggest fundraising events of the summer in our Region.

SPRINT SERIES RULES

The SUMMER SPRINT SERIES is organised by Portreath Surf Life Saving Club as a registered charity. After expenses all monies raised will go to the club to be used as agreed by the executive committee.

By entering the event you agree to abide to the following;

1. There is a strict age on the day limitation:

a. All JUNIOR entrants must be a minimum of 13 years old as of the 1^st May 2013 and no older than 16 years. Forms must be signed by parent or legal guardian.

b. All open entrants must be a minimum of 17 years of age as the 1^st May 2013, with no upper age limit. If under 18, forms must be signed by parent or legal guardian.

c. The Masters race is open to anyone 40 years of age as of the 1^st May 2013 or older.

2.         a. Club caps must be worn by all competitors.

b. Each Ski/Board event will consist of 3 short course races. The courses will be determined on the day depending on sea and weather conditions.

3. Prizes are as advertised, but may be altered if sponsors change.

This will be at the discretion of the organisers.

Points will be awarded for each individual race (1pt for 1^st, 2pts for 2^nd, 3pts for 3^rd etc). Prizes will be awarded for the individuals with the fewest points at the end of the series:

a. Junior Event;

• First Male & Female – Ski and Board

b. Open Event;

• First Male & Female – Ski and Board

c. Masters Event;

• First Masters Male and Female – Ski and Board

4. The organisers aim for this to be an inclusive event. However, entrants must be able to Ski Paddle, Board Paddle and/or Swim the required distance and be a fully paid member of a SLSGB affiliated club.

5. A risk assessment will be undertaken prior to the event taking place by Portreath SLSC Committee. If they are concerned about safety due to sea conditions they have the right to cancel the event. Their decision is final. Entry fees will be reimbursed.

6. Water cover has the right to pull individual’s from the event if they are concerned about theirs or others safety. Entry fees will not be reimbursed.

some treats for lunch all for a small donation.

Medals will be handed out for previous competitions and hopefully the Nationals results will be announced,

 there will be a Raffle, a Lucky Dip, a cake sale and much more!  Donations of home made cakes to sell and raffle prizes will be gratefully received!
